The Chateau was, according to legend, acquired to facilitate the love affair between Henry II and Diane de Poitiers.  Although married to Catherine de Medici, Henry II had a special affection for Diane de Poitiers, who was his governess. Their monogram, an intertwined H and D, is set in stone at the entrance of the Castle.  It is also found in the homes of these historical lovers in Fontainebleau for Henry II and Anet for Diane de Poitiers. The royal monogram is now the symbol of Chateau La Haye and adorns all our labels.  Chateau La Haye is part of a long wine tradition, with the establishment of the vineyard dating back to 1557, when Sire Janot Bernard of Leyssac acquired the property and planted the first vines.  It is one of the oldest castles of Saint-Estephe.  The property has remained within the same family for 370 years.

 

St. Estephe Majeste, Grand Reserve, 2010

Produced only in exceptional vintage years. Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.  Aged 18 months in Alliers oak. Complex, elegant.  95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot.

St. Estephe Cuvee Small Step, 2011

Complex, fleshy nose of ripe fruits, spice, sweet peppers with a fine hint of vanilla.  Well structured palate, fruity and well balanced. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot.

St. Estephe Cru Bourgeois, 2008

Deep ruby-red with shades of violet. Pleasant, seductive, expressive, slightly woody. Cassis, violet and spices. Soft finish.  72% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot

 

 

Bordeaux Le Rouge de la Haye, 2012

Bordeaux blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. Dark fruits, balanced, round  and pleasant after-taste.

Bordeaux Le Blanc de la Haye, 2012

Maximum expression of Sauvignon Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. Aromas of pineapple, peaches, and citrus; well balanced with a pleasant crisp finish.
